Research topics on this lab focus on the role of spiders in the food webs, the use of this group relies on its megadiversity in our country and the Neotropical area. In the frame of our research we study web-building behaviour and habitat selection, the foraging adaptations to avoid the intra-specific competition, as well as the ontogenic changes on predatory and web-building behaviour in social spiders. Additionally we evaluate potential use of spiders as potential controllers of insect densities in agriculture systems, human and animal health. Other aspects focus on the lethal and sublethal effects of agrochemicals on spiders.
Other approaches involve the analysis of the predatory behaviour and ecology of species of medical importance and the physiological and behavioral adaptations on stenophagious spiders. We also develop projects about reproductive strategies on solitary and social spiders in its evolutionary context.
